blogger

I came across a journal put up by my Ah-lian friend, Jieru abt the issue of blog. She he had feedback saying that the way she writes her blog is so different from the actual person that others perceive of her. Some say that she is not being herself, aka very false. Not the very good lah....

I was pondering abt it and it brings mi out of the bigger picture - what is my objective of having this aliying blog of mine @aliying.blogspot.com? In my opinion, I view this blog as one that is informative, to update friends who I cannot catch up with due work committment, etc. I view the blog as one that helps mi to set realistic targets (eg meet up with person AAA, do BBB, read up on CCC) I view the blog as a self reflection of my feelings, my thoughts, my annoucements, my nagginess (aka ALI). I may be writing the blog when I had a bad flight; I may be writing the blog after celebrating my upcoming 9th anniversay with Huimin, I may be writing my blog after drinking 6 bottles of Bud.
And I may be writing my blog when I had won Jeffrey's money in Manjong.

The moral of the story - One can be writing the blog in different ways due to the mild changes in character on that day, environment, audience, emotions, activities. However, I am still Aliying and I am still the same Chong / Eng Wei / Yingwei / Aliying that everyone know abt.

Anime forever!

On Yahoo Auction, I had just won the bid of two animations sets - Neon Genesis Evangelion and Full metal Alchemist. Hurray! On top of that, the Gundam Seed Destiny had just been completed and was ready for my acquisation. ahahahahahah!

Not very sure what do I mean by all these? Act, I am quite a fan of japanese animation. Layman term - cartoon, not layman term - anime. I had been watching all these when I was young - from the very retro and traditional Macross Saga to the latest Gundam Seed Destiny. Animation had evolved over the past twenty years of my life to the latest hits - Initial D [Takumi doing the drift in street racing with his father(Bunta)'s AE86 and moving on the WRX] and Naruto [Some crazy ninja who only know how to create clones of himself after 155 episodes and still going strong]

My next wave of OJT is coming up soon - that means the stress level will be there one.... Nevertheless, with a balanced mind,I am sure that I am able to find time to watch an anime episode.

Commenced!

The time has come to reveal what I had been doing for the last 20 months. Finally I had graduated (or commenced) from Singapore Flying collge to SIA as a cadet pilot. These 20 months of training had been much of a challange to me - financially(a major paycut for mi), morally(the dos and don'ts in the aviation industry), physically(the incapability to differentiate between weekdays and weekends), mentally(prior preparation prevents piss*** performance), emotionally(homesick, relationships are challenged upon), etc.

It had been alot of ups and downs for mi. Throughout the training, I had sensed that I had matured to the next level - thinking ahead, thinking out of the box, thinking of things around mi. Hope that I had not become a complex guy, still is a guy who wants the simplest things in life - live happily, eat happily and smile happily.

Ups
I finally made my mark to continue as a pilot, but be rest assured that there is always room for improvement; met my guys in course 98, tremondously strong support from my wife, Huimin; continuous renewed friendship from our friends; joy of making the sky my home; fortunate to be given a chance to fly; Good decisions made at the toughest time

Downs
Not clearing my first solo; wait to rush, rush to wait; homesick; study and fail exam; uncertainities; challanges;

Myself and Huimin

Like to take this opportunity to thank Huimin / Min for all the big and small things that she had done for mi - my soulmate, my wife and my pillar of support for the last 2 years. Working overseas is tough for mi, but it is even harder for Huimin back in Singapore. Not easy, not easy....

P.S - This is not the end. I had commenced on my next phase of training

mid week

This week seems a bit "tight" Time management to be improved upon...looking much forward to spend the weekend with Huimin.
Also up in my game plan is to meet up with April and Hanrong, for Efung presentation at the National Library coming sat.

Got myself an Ascics GT2100 shoe - ran 10km for 2 conservative days. Feeling not so bad. Signing up for a marathon in Singapore is no joke, really....

Annapurna 2003

2003_05_24
The time had come. Jeffrey and I are finally on our way to our own theatre of dreams - Annapurna circuit cum Base camp trek.

Below are two of my fav photos that I had taken throughout the whole trip. All in all, I had taken 7 rolls of colours and 2 rolls of black and white. I truely enjoy the shooting experience with a manual SLR. The first pic is taken from the Annapurna Base camp in the early morning sunrise. Powerful rays, blocked by even more powerful mountains. The second pic in black and white is a pic of an elder sis and younger bro. To them, we are like the 10, 012nd people asking them to do the same pose. But for us. it ponders mi to think that the elder sis is trying to protect her younger brother from these foreign weirdos like Jeffrey and myself.

The concept of the trek was inspired by our JJC ODAC days. Even though NUS ODAC and rovers offers nepal trekking every year, it did not trick us into going for the package trip. We want to do it on our own, getting lost on our own, going into the unexpected on our own

Attached is my trekking soulmate, Jeffrey during Annapurna 2003. As mentioned in the previous mail, he would be making his way to Nepal from the happening India side this time. In addition, he would be attempting the wonderful Everest Base camp trek. Wish I could be with him, but my job do not permit mi to do so for NOW. I told myself like what others had always told mi - the mountain is always there. :)

Finally, this is mi trekking enroute to Annapurna Base camp. If I am not wrong, this is the coming down stage. My stats are as follows - A total of 21 days, covering a total track dist of 350km, 2 rain days, highest attempt of 5546m (Thorong La high pass), met countless friends from Holland, USA, India, Singapore, France, Korea, England, etc, met a very good friend called Colin Mark Holmes, had countless Dal Bhat, vegeterian for 3 weeks, broke my shoe, 2 sets of attire only, left my footprints there.

With all these writings, pic and memories accumulated, it still couldn't replicate the entire experience that I had during Annapurna 2003. I told myself - I will be back!

Ah Sean!!!

Sent off Sean a few days ago for his advanced training in Maroochydore, Brisbane. The whole course was there , felt so good. It had been a while since we gathered together. With a mobile office deck, it would be difficult to locate oneself from time to time. So Course 98, as far as I am concerned, remains a reason why people stick together as good friends. :)

All the best to Sean for his advanced training, and I will be looking forward to chill with him back in Singapore again.

Got to go to the airport again to send off my friend Jeffrey, who would be going to India to work and proceed on to Nepal for the Everest Base Camp trek. The next journal would be touching upon my amazing trip to Nepal 2 years back with Jeffrey. Stay tuned!!!

To my Bahasa Melayu Abangs

Recall my previous outstanding tasks:
1. Study for my OJT. Time is running out! - The tides are against mi. So many things to learn, so many questions to remember, so many whys in my head?? Nevermind, keep yourself chill, everything will be fine. Tomo will be my crux day as I will try my very best to consume and digest as much info as possible.

2. Meet Hansong and Shunhe - To be postphoned to next week.

3. Send off Lip Chee and Maggie. - Done!!! today 0800hrs

4. Meet Fuhan and Keng Fei. - This is definitely the highlight of the week...
This is definitely the highlight of this week.

The title of this journal sums up how I found this two dear Bahasa Melayu Abang in the year 2003. I first met Keng Fei in the year 1995. Reason - he jumped from JJC to NJC (Upgrade). I jumped from NJC to JJC (Downgrade). He went to NJC OAC. I went to JJC ODAC. Okie, so from JJC, I heard that there is a bloody smart guy who scores a 6 points for L1R5, and there is a not so smart guy aka mi who scores 14 for L1R5. Nevermind, we next met in the same
BMT section. Yes, two botak guys trying to get into the routines of National Service. Then we split ways again. Next, we met again in NUS engineering - he in Civil and mi in Mechanical. Still crossing each other's path. Then came upon one fine day where I was attending my first Malay class. Next thing you know, Keng Fei was sitting next to me. From then on, a brotherhood was forged and there was no turning back then on.

Fu Han was a friend of his. Commando Occifer, long hair, nice dimples, look like Takashi abit, humble, down to earth. Believe mi, I never thought that I can make very close friends in my Uni days. They proved mi wrong. The three of us, aka the Bahasa Melayu Abangs, became one of my closest group of friends I am so honoured to have.

We met up at Rouge initally. However, there was absolutely no way to squeeze ourselves into ice cold beer. We proceeded on to Balaclava. It had been a while since I had been there. Good Stuff! Good drink, good crowd, good music, good chicken wings. 3 of us, 18 bottles of Bud. (I hate it where there is 1 on 1) Really had a good time as we came together to celebrate for a lot of
reasons - I am back in Singapore, Fuhan will be tying his knot with Wenjing, Keng Fei had a comm success with Wendy. They taught mi something - as long as you are positive in thinking, YOU CAN DO IT!!!

Got to go now....lots more to type, but got to go now.....

Good nite, ladies and gentlemen

Met up at Jaslin and Dave house for a housewarming session. This is highly regarded as one of my top priority "list of things to do when I come back to Singapore". Making my way to the lovely Bukit Gombak, Huimin and I were the first to reach their 5 Rm home. Very nice and cosy, Well spaced and feels very "Jaslin and Dave". You got to see it in order to tell...hahahaah!

Celebrated Jeffrey 27th Birthday. Man, am I happy that he caught up with mi in terms of age...hahaahah! Had a cake from Angie's choice. Nice. Prior to that, we had pizza, salad, Jomson Duck, drumlets, etc. Top it up with a few can of Tiger beer and that is life!

Drank 2 bottles of red wine, merlot and Grenache. Should try the latter first as it is lighter. Dave had always been a joy to drink with. His Hong-Kong-Award-Best- actor skill and his worse-than-auntie bargaining skills not to drink in front of Jeffery and I are simply amazing....hahahahaah!

Played Manjong and continued to drink till 4am in the late morning. Truly enjoyable, truly Singapore style.

I love Singapore.

This week will be a tough week to manage. Here are things that I aim to achieve for this week: 1. Study for my OJT. Time is running out!
2. Meet Hansong and Shunhe
3. Meet Fuhan and Keng Fei. Particularly significant as this will be the last kopitiam beer with Fuhan as a bachelor. Die Die must drink!
4. Send off Lip Chee and Maggie. My closest couple friend are going to Taiwan for 10 days for their first wedding anniversary. How sweet!

Time is not by my side. But I will work it out!
